I've done a few pattern testings by now, but this is my first design sewing. Sara from MetalMotte has new unique designs in her fabric shop (shipping across the EU) a few times a month and asked me to be part of her sewing crew - how could I say no? I got a Medusa panel for free - 150 x 150 cm of cotton stretch jersey that is a breeze to work with. Now, I'm thrilled to have made something for myself again.

If you're a bit into sustainable fashion, you might have heard the term deadstock. But what is this, and is it really sustainable? A bit yes, but also no. I'll explain the details and tell you more about the advantages and disadvantages I this post. I have used deadstock, and I still have some in my stash. But I won't buy any more, and I'll tell you why.

This is the second blog post about my 100-day project. I started it at the beginning of 2021 and wrote about it halfway through - about what it is and what I did. I chose pattern design as topic because I have been designing fabrics for a while now, and I love sewing unique products with them. I wanted to expand my portfolio and carry out all the ideas I had in my head. It was partly successful and partly not.

If you're just a bit into eco-friendly clothing, you probably came across bamboo. It is often marketed as a sustainable option but without giving further information on why. Let's take a closer look beyond that green bamboo picture, and we'll see some problems. It's not all negative, though. I will leave you with some advantages and links to read or watch more.

Today you will get a look behind the scenes again. I have written about pattern design before, showing you the final fabric and telling a bit more about my approach from sketching to digital work. I wanted to create more patterns for my products for a while now but never got around to finish them. I have so many ideas on my list that I made it into a 100-day project that started on January 1st.

Again a few months since my last blog post. Time has gone really quickly when some restrictions lifted, and I went into work more. I also got really busy with sewing for Zebraspider, stocking up for the market season, custom orders, and pattern testing. Yes, there was a lot of work, but also a lot of fun. The creative side of being stuck at home kept going strong.

Erinnerst du dich noch an das Mondmuster? Aus der einen Idee sind nun zwei Stoffmuster entstanden. Ursprünglich wollte ich ja beides kombinieren. Jetzt habe ich ein simples mit den Mondphasen in weiß auf schwarz (daher auch Siebdruck-geeignet) und volle Aquarell-Monde mit gemusterten Weltall-Hintergrund. Das sind aber nicht die einzigen Muster, die ich habe drucken lassen. Schau dir hier an wie sie alle auf Stoff aussehen. [Beitrag enthält Werbung]

Vor einer Weile hab ich mal ein Bild gefunden, das nach Batik mit Zebramuster aussah. An anderer Stelle hatte ich schon von Shibori, der alten japanischen Färbetechnik gehört und fand die verschiedenen Abbindetechniken interessant, die nicht so hippiemäßig aussehen. Pole-Wrapping oder Arashi wird die Methode für das Zebramuster genannt. Ich hab mir das meiste Zubehör im Baumarkt besorgt, dann konnte es mit dem Färben losgehen.

Mein Stand auf dem Schattenmarkt rückt immer näher und ich arbeite immer noch jeden Tag an neuen Teilen. Mit dabei sind auch wieder ein paar mit meinen eigenen Mustern. Wie ich Stoffmuster entwerfe hab ich schon gezeigt und auch wie ich Motive im Siebdruck verwirkliche. Seit einiger Zeit kombiniere ich beides und drucke ein paar meiner Muster selbst. Drei davon zeig ich heute und erzählte wie ich das bald groß ausbauen möchte.

Vor einer Woche habe ich die Zusage für den zweiten Markt dieses Jahres bekommen und da dachte ich mir, ich sollte mal wieder anfangen Klamotten zu produzieren. Gürteltaschen sind auch gerade in Arbeit, aber ob die bis dahin reichen ist ne andere Frage (sehr wahrscheinlich nicht). Wie ich mich so inspirieren lasse hab ich schonmal beschrieben. Heute zeige ich euch mal, was aktuell so auf meinem Nähtisch liegt und was da vielleicht noch dazu kommt.
